Caronport, SK – Kings goaltender Arik Weersink was in a groove Friday evening.
The third-year goalie shut the door on the Briercrest College Clippers, leading the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings to an impressive 3-0 road shutout victory.
The Kings hit the scoreboard about halfway into the first period.
First-year forward Jacob Kendall used his speed up the right side and connected with Kyle Salaway in front. Salaway made no mistake, depositing his fifth of the season past Clippers goaltender Dominik Tmej.
In the second period, a productive shift from Tucker Scantlebury in the Briercrest zone sparked the Polytechnic's second marker. Controlling the puck below the right circle, the second-year forward from Foxwarren set up Hayden Clayton, who was charging the net. Clayton converted on the backhand for his first ACAC goal.
