Edmonton, AB - Once again, a winner between the Red Deer Polytechnic and Concordia University Thunder wasn't decided over 60 minutes.
On Saturday evening, the contest (3-3) remained deadlocked after two periods of overtime and each team earned a point in the standings.
The visitors struck first. Sylvan Lake's Hayden Clayton beat Thunder netminder Sam-Jaxon Visscher on the power play at 9:53 of the opening stanza.
In the second period, the Thunder scored a pair within 43 seconds to pull ahead 2-1. Rylan Nivon and Scott Allan had the markers.
Before the end of the frame, Erik Miller evened the contest and then Konrad Belcourt lifted the Kings ahead 3-2. It was Miller's second goal and ninth point in seven games.
Miller (44)
That lead held until Zachary Carlson beat Kings goaltender Kristian Lyon at 19:36 of the third period, forcing overtime.
Five minutes of four-on-four and five minutes of three-on-three couldn't produce a winner.
Lyon (35)
First-year Lyon was solid in net, turning aside 55-of-58 (0.948) shots. The Business Administration General student was named the Kings Player of the Game.
Concordia's Player of the Game Visscher made 42 saves (0.933).
The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings scored once on five power plays. The Concordia University Thunder went zero-for-five.
The Kings (4-1-2-1) will host the Portage College Voyageurs (1-8-0-0) on Thursday, February 3 at 7 pm.
