Clayton's overtime marker seals Kings' victory over Vikings in Camrose

Camrose, AB - A deflection from Kings first-year forward Hayden Clayton was the difference. 

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and University of Alberta Augustana Vikings were even after regulation time and five minutes of four-on-four overtime. Then Clayton tipped in a point shot to give the Kings a 5-4 double-overtime victory.

The visitors opened the scoring. Tucker Scantlebury received a pass at the left side of Augustana's net - he cut cross-crease and tucked the puck behind Vikings netminder Rett Rook on the backhand. 

Before the end of the first period, Jake Gudjonson and Tanner Manz struck for the Vikings to enter the intermission up 2-1. 

Jacob Kendall scored early in the second period to even the contest. Before the end of the stanza, Augustana jumped ahead 3-2.

Chance Longjohn and Kendall replied for the Kings early in the third to pull ahead 4-3. Augustana's Manz beat RDP's goaltender Kristian Lyon, evening the contest and eventually sending the game to overtime. 

Fifty-five seconds into the second extra frame, RDP's Mathieu Lapointe took a shot from the point and Clayton was well-positioned to tip it past Rook for a 5-4 road victory.

Langley's Lyon made 41 saves in the win.

Rook turned aside 38 shots.

The third place Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (9-3-2-1) will host the fifth seed U of A Augustana Vikings (5-7-3-0) Saturday at 7 pm at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. This will be the Kings' final regular season contest. 

The RDP Kings will face the Briercrest College Clippers in the best-of-three quarter-final.
