The Kings grinded out a victory in Saskatchewan

Caronport, Sk, February 3, 2023 – On their longest road trip of the season, the Kings started their weekend off with a gritty 3-2 victory over the Briercrest College Clippers in Caronport, Sk.

Briercrest opened the scoring to give their team the lead in the first period. The Clippers forward was able to fire it with little to no room as he was skating just off the goal line and shot it short-side past goaltender Kristian Lyon (Business Administration). But with under two minutes left to go, a scramble in front of the net led to the Kings first goal on the night to tie it as they head off to the dressing room to prepare for the second period. Forward Chance Longjohn (Bachelor of Education) was the Kings player that was awarded the goal and was later named the player of the game for his team.

Under two minutes into the second period, the Kings would take their first lead of the game after forward Hayden Clayton (Open Studies) found the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season in another scramble in the blue paint. This would do it for the scoring in the second period and the Kings led the Clippers 2-1 going into the third period.

The Kings opened the third period scoring with under 10 minutes left to play to extend their lead to 3-1. After a four-point weekend last week, forward Nolan Doell (Bachelor of Education) scored his ninth goal on the season. Doell was able to pick up a rebound off the Clippers goaltender and found the back of the net.

With the goaltender pulled and under a minute to go, the Clippers cut the Kings lead to one goal as they crashed the net, and a screened Lyon was not able to find the puck.

The Kings, however, walked away with the 3-2 win.

These two teams will rematch tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm in Caronport, Sk. Catch the game live on ACACTV.
