Johnson powers Kings past Lions in Calgary

Calgary, AB –  The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings received a hat trick from first-year striker Grant Johnson and dropped the Ambrose University Lions 4-1 in Calgary.

Red Deer's Grant Johnson set the tone early, scoring in the second minute to lift the Kings ahead 1-0. The Lions thought that they evened the contest later in the first half, but the goal was waved off and the visitors entered the break with the lead.

In the second-half, Kings Player of the Game Grant Johnson continued to positively impact the game. The talented Legal Assistant student added tallies in the 59th and 62nd minutes, beating Lions goalkeeper Connor Klassen and recording his sixth goal of the season.

Seven minutes later, Ajdin Sarcevic tacked on the Kings' fourth goal, his sixth of the year.

Lions striker Aristotle Cruz broke the Kings shutout bid in the 72nd minute, beating RDP goalkeeper Garret Thompson, who took over from Jared St. Thomas.

Klassen made 12 saves for the Lions.

On Saturday, October 15, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (3-1-3) will play the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (3-1-3) at 4 pm in Raymond, Alberta. Both squads are tied for second spot in the south.
