Pearman and Queens continue winning streak, down Broncos in straight sets

Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens used their depth and a double digit kill performance from outside hitter Tess Pearman to down the Olds College Broncos in three sets (25-17, 25-10 and 25-16).
Queens first-year setter Danielle Wiens (27 assists) ran an effective offence.
"I thought we played very efficient. We took a while to settle into the match," said Chris Wandler, Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball Head Coach. "Danielle set a really good offence tonight. Our setters have been doing a heck of a job trying to connect with everybody. Everyone is grabbing a piece of it and taking off with it."
Ferguson (9)
Both Jaiden Ferguson and Anna Carlson recorded six kills from the outside for the Queens. Danielle Wiens, who is a Bachelor of Arts Psychology student out of Regina, also found middles Sydney Rix (7 kills) and McKenna Olson (four kills).
"We did a really good job of establishing the middle tonight," said Wandler. "That led to Tess getting 15 [kills]."
Libero Kaylee Domoney made some key defensive plays and passes, totaling nine digs and three assists.
Searra Schoepfner had four kills for the Broncos. Tabitha Martin and Sydney Joyce recorded three kills apiece.
Tess Pearman was recognized as the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Match. Along with the Bachelor of Education Elementary student's match high 15 kills, Pearman had two digs and one stuff block while hitting for 0.458 per cent efficiency.
Pearman (8)
"Fifteen kills in three sets, just unbelievable. It goes to our first contact and Danny's connection with her and then Tess just finished it off," explained Wandler. "She's just a heck of a player and leader, and she did a really good job of bearing down on the ball tonight."
Lexi Lafreniere received the top player award for the Broncos, contributing 12 assists and two digs.
The Broncos picked up four service aces. Anna Carlson had four of the Queens' eight aces.
"Our serving kept Olds off balance and we were able to transition some out of system balls," said Wandler. "We were fortunate to be really diligent in what we do and we put some balls away."
While the Queens have quietly pushed their undefeated record to 4-0, they have also not lost a single set.
"We have an embarrassment of riches honestly. We sat Tess Pearman last night and Jadyn Leong tonight and it just keeps everyone fresh and hungry and healthy and that's the most important thing," said Wandler.
"These games are important, but we have some big aspirations as a group. The farther we look ahead, the more we need to keep our heads in the moment, but also have the long term idea of how we're going to get there."
The Broncos (2-2) will play the Kodiaks (2-2) in Olds on Thursday, November 25 at 8 pm.
The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (4-0) will challenge the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (0-2) at home on Friday, November 26 at 8 pm.
