Letkeman and Queens sweep Trojans, enter break 8-0
Calgary, AB - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens capped off the first half of the season with a perfect 8-0 record.
The Queens got out to a fast start in Calgary and rolled over the SAIT Trojans in three sets (25-16, 27-25 and 25-18). It was the Polytechnic's eighth consecutive sweep of its opponents.
The home team pushed the Queens in the second set, but the maturity and composure of the RDP student-athletes loomed large in the victory.
Queens Player of the Game Emma Letkeman, a second-year settter, contributed 21 assists, three kills, a dig, and two of the team's eight service aces.
Leong (6) and Carlson (11)
Former SAIT Trojan Jadyn Leong returned to Calgary and totaled seven kills, one dig and an ace for the Queens. Five-foot-11 outside hitter Jaiden Ferguson also had seven kills. Fifth-year Anna Carlson contributed six.
Domoney (3)
Libero Kaylee Domoney, another fifth-year, was solid defensively, picking up seven digs and a pair of assists. Veteran middle McKenna Olson, a Bachelor of Science Nursing student from Saskatoon, had three of the Queens' six blocks.
Krystina Wanat sparked SAIT's offence with eight kills (0.455%) and was selected the Trojans top player. LeeAnne Arnott added seven kills. As a group, the Trojans recorded four service aces.
The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (8-0) will be back in action against the Ambrose University Lions (3-3) on Friday, January 21 in Calgary at 8 pm.
