Domoney and Queens improve to 13-0, drop Trojans in Calgary

Calgary, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens were tested by the SAIT Trojans, but they remained steady. 

Pushed late in several sets, the Queens stayed focused and persevered all the way to a four set road victory (29-27, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-22).

When the first set was even (17-17), several RDP student-athletes dug in deep. After that stage, outside hitter Tess Pearman racked up three kills, Jaiden Ferguson added a pair of kills, and Sydney Rix recorded a service ace to wrap up the set decision.

Over the match, Anna Carlson and Ferguson led the visitors' offence with a total of nine kills and two service aces each. Red Deer's Rix added seven kills from the middle.

Pearman finished with six kills, four digs, an assist and a block. Setter Emma Letkeman, a Kinesiology Fitness and Health student, had 12 assists and two of the Queens' nine blocks.

Queens Player of the Game Kaylee Domoney brought another consistent performance, contributing seven digs and two assists.

Eleven RDP student-athletes received playing time.

Five-foot-11 outside hitter Aurora Bentrim was selected as the top Trojans player. The first-year from Calgary had six kills, two of SAIT's eight service aces, and a pair of digs. 

LeeAnne Arnott powered SAIT's offence with seven kills. She added four digs and a block. Krystina Wanat had three of the Trojans' seven blocks. 

On Saturday, February 5, the first place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (13-0) will play the fourth seed Briercrest College Clippers (5-3) at 2 pm in Saskatchewan.

Then the Queens have two conference games remaining before the playoffs.
